A few days ago, Intel officially confirmed plans to release Arrow Lake processors in 2024. They will replace Meteor Lake chips. Now more information about this family has appeared.
Confirmations have surfaced that the Arrow Lake processor family will use a combination of three technology nodes. It will also take advantage of Intel's new disaggregated strategy, which will be implemented in client products.
Arrow Lake-P is a mobile processor architecture. It provides for the use of up to 6 large (Performance) cores and up to 8 small (Efficient) cores. There were also rumors that such processors will receive up to 320 graphics execution units (codenamed GT3), which suggests a whole new level of performance for mobile APUs.
A new slide leak from Intel's internal roadmap fully confirms these rumors. The slide not only reveals information about the product, which is still about two years away but also gives an idea of the multi-year planning of Intel chips.
The roadmap shows timelines for each stage of chip development, such as ES1, Alpha, ES2, Beta, QS, PV, and PRQ. The earliest version of the Arrow Lake-P chip is scheduled for late 2022, with the final product due by week 33, 2023.
This slide also confirms that Arrow Lake-P processors, codenamed Halo, are aiming to compete with Apple in the premium 14-inch laptop segment, which may be part of the Intel EVO platform. The processor will be equipped with a GPU with 320 executables, the area of which is estimated at less than 80 mm². The notes state that any design changes that increase this size will require a redistribution of chips on TSMC wafers. Intel hasn't officially indicated who the external manufacturing partner for the N3 technology is, but the leaked document clearly mentions TSMC N3.
Additionally, it is reported that the Arrow Lake-P processor line takes precedence over the Arrow Lake S series (desktop segment). The Arrow Lake series is expected to become the 15th generation Core series and use the same socket as Meteor Lake (at least for desktop systems).
