Although the PlayStation 5 was launched in 2021 and works according to the standard of HDMI 2.1 set in 2017, so far it has not supported one...
Refresh rate support is irrelevant to movies and series that are broadcast at a fixed frame rate, but when playing games it comes to prevent a phenomenon known as 'screen tearing'. This phenomenon makes the image appear cropped because the content is transmitted to the screen at a refresh rate different from that of the panel. With the help of a variable refresh rate support, the screens adjust themselves to the game's operating rate, thus avoiding the phenomenon.
Capability support was actually added in the latest update that started distribution a little less than a month ago but has only just become available. Owners of the new Sony console can already go into the display menu on the settings screen and activate the capability in question.
By default, the capability is only enabled in games that offer accurate support. The list includes Astro's Playroom, Call of Duty: Vanguard, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and more ( for the full list ). It can be run in bulk for all games but Sony notes that the experience is optimal only in games that officially support the capability.
Capability support is phased out but according to reports on the network it can be activated after the console is restarted.
