Haven't you ever wondered how humanity intends to obtain important raw materials in the future? The construction simulation Satisfactory from developer Coffee Stain Studios gets to the bottom of this question and presents you with a truly Herculean task.

What It's About

In the future, humanity has long since outgrown planet Earth. Because although the blue spot in space is the cradle of life, the earth has a decisive disadvantage. All resources on it are limited. For this reason, wise people have reasoned that it only makes sense for humans to seek out other planets to harvest resources that can be used to meet the needs of Earth's population.

As a space builder-in-spirit, you land on a strange planet. All you have is a scanner, an electronic tool, and the helpful voice of the computer intelligence ADA to find your way in the new environment.

The goal of your space trip is quite simple. You have to collect raw materials of all kinds and turn the natural planet Massage 2(AB)b into a flourishing industrial landscape. To do this, you build generators and conveyor systems. Large machines later take over the heavy digging work or convert collected resources directly into high-quality products. These then go directly to Earth via space mail, where the fruits of your labor are to be sold to end-users. But before that happens, there is still a lot to do.

Start-up aid for new builders

If you haven't played building and survival sims before, you can quickly find yourself in a dead-end with Satisfactory. So that you don't start your company construction life completely overwhelmed, there are a few tips that you should consider:

Start on the Starting Map

Satisfactory offers you a small selection of different maps on which your space capsule can land. Each area has its own characteristics and offers different challenges. On some maps, for example, the available building space is very small, so you don't have to build in width, but in height. With other maps, your starting resources are limited. You have to be very good at managing your business to get the base up and running. There are also maps where the local wildlife is not only very numerous but also very aggressive. If you're too daring to collect, the animals will pound you to a pulp in a matter of seconds.

Maps of this type are intended for players who have already taken their first steps in Satisfactory and are looking for greater challenges. As a beginner, however, you are well-advised to stay on the meadow map. The first map in the game is the beginner map with lots of space and resources in abundance.

Pay Attention to Your Build

You can build your factory however you like. There are no fixed places where you have to place the individual elements and you can rotate each building as you like. Even if this gives your company an individual look, you should refrain from doing so as a beginner. Because freedom to build has its downsides. You waste valuable space if you build your individual buildings crookedly and crookedly and get annoyed afterward when there is no more building land available.

For this reason, the developers of the game have also included a feature that allows you to align new buildings with the borders of other structures. If you press the CTRL key, a new object will be fixed so that you can grow it in a space-saving way.

Keep track

Satisfactory has many tools that you can use to get an overview of your company. For example, use the paint gun to highlight individual sections of your company in color. This allows you to see better where your attention is needed and you don't have to look around for a long time.

Keep evolving

In the game, you are rewarded with so-called milestones when you build certain structures or collect a certain amount of resources. There are three milestones that will give you a massive helping hand in the first few hours. You absolutely need "Logistics" and "Obstacle Removal". With these additional abilities, you improve the transfer of your goods and unlock better biofuel, which will help you immensely.

You should also unlock "Medical Inhaler" for yourself as soon as possible. This gives you an additional healing option so that you can extend your life a little even if an animal attacks you.

Use all directions

Satisfactory has a trick that is often forgotten. Because you don't just expand your company from right to left or from north to south. You can also build higher. This allows you to set up powerful factories in a very limited space.

So when you've filled your space on a level, it's time for you to move up a level.

Increase speed

For the transport of people and goods, you build roads between your factory buildings and set up transport routes. Thanks to Hyper-Highways and the tube system, you can give the whole thing a little more speed. Use this speed boost as early as possible to get your goods and workers to their destinations faster.

Alone Too Monotonous?

Is your company planet too lonely for you? Would you like some company? Then you can invite your friends to your planet in Satisfactory. Either you start a private round directly, whereby only four selected friends can start on a map. Alternatively, you can also start an open round. Your friends can jump in and support you at any time.

If you play with friends, you can split up the chores of the factory a bit. For example, the other players can actively search for resources and bring them to your camp. Also, you all get access to the same technologies no matter how far along you are in your individual game turns. However, your friends cannot build buildings for you.

Harmony Instead of Struggle

Unlike similar building simulations, you don't need to be afraid of visitors in Satisfactory. There is damage if someone hits you with their tools, but other players will have a hard time with your buildings. They cannot damage your company or tear down buildings. There is no form of PVP.

This means that you can take a break from building a company without having to worry that you will find yourself in front of a large pile of rubble when you return. The only danger comes from the animals. Otherwise, Satisfactory is a harmonious collect-and-build experience with slight sci-fi leanings.
