The Call of Duty series is considered to be the most popular FPS game series today, probably also of all time. But, it seems that the beloved series has become a little less like this, with it even losing players on a regular basis, at least according to the investor report released by the company (the first for 2022).
The report shows that the number of active players in the series' games fell throughout 2021 and during the first months of 2022. The series, which saw about 150 million active players in the same period last year, recorded a decrease of about 50 million from the regular players. This is probably due to several reasons, including a drop in sales of the latest title Call of Duty: Vanguard, alongside more "poor involvement" in Warzone on the part of the players.
The distributor Activision talked about the low sales level of the latest title in the Call of Duty series, but it is likely that most of the decline was actually recorded in Warzone, the free title that was launched in 2020 and quickly became an impressive success at the time. But this drop probably won’t surprise anyone, as it's probably a disappointing year for fans following unsuccessful updates to Warzone. Among other things, are unsuccessful seasonal additions, problematic balance to the game, a new map that created bugs that broke the game and were not fixed for whole weeks, and more.
